Auckland

Auckland is located North of the North Island. It is the most largest and populous urban area in New Zealand. The city has approximately 1,397,300 residents which is about 33% of the country's total population. Some attractions that are recommended may be the Sky tower and the Auckland Museum.
Wellington

Wellington is the capital city of New Zealand located at the Southwestern tip of the North Island. It is the second most populous urban area followed by Auckland. It is home to 395,600 residents and has the New Zealand parliament building 'Beehive'. Wellington is also known as the nations arts and culture capital.
Christchurch

Christchurch is the largest city in the South Island and the country's third largest urban area. It is situated on the edge of the Canterbury plains that stretch to the Southern Alps bordered with hills and the Pacific Ocean.
Recently the city has suffered hugely due to the earthquake magnitude 7.1 and 6.3. With the destruction of the Cathedral, the city is under construction for re-building.
